New Director Appointed at ADOSH

The Industrial Commission of Arizona is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Norton as the new Director for the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH). Mark has been serving as an Assistant Director for ADOSH since November 2021, and brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
Mark began working at ADOSH in 1987 as a compliance officer. Over the years, he has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to workplace safety and health. From 2002 to 2010, Mark served as the Voluntary Protection Program Coordinator for ADOSH, where he played a pivotal role in promoting VPP and enhancing workplace safety standards across the state.
Additionally, Mark’s contributions extend beyond Arizona, serving as an Instructor at the University of California San Diego OSHA Training Institute. His expertise and dedication to occupational safety and health education have positively impacted countless individuals and organizations.
In his new role Director Norton will continue to prioritize the well-being of Arizona’s workforce, working collaboratively with labor organizations, businesses, and government agencies to ensure safe and healthy workplaces throughout the state.
Federal OSHA Updates
Final Rulemaking has been passed and will to into effect on 1/1/2024, for certain highly hazardous industries, to report additional information on an annual basis.
Federal OSHA has submitted a proposed rule to clarify, in the construction industry, the requirement that employee PPE properly fit the employee. This language is already in place for the General Industry and Maritime Industry regulations.
Federal OSHA has announced a National Emphasis Program (NEP) for the Warehousing Industry & Distribution Centers.
New ADOSH State Emphasis Program
ADOSH Announces State Emphasis Program to Combat Heat Illness and Injury in the Workplace – this Emphasis program is focused on specific highly hazardous industries for heat exposure.
