Workers Memorial Day Poem

Posted: May 02, 2017

In order to honor those who have suffered and died on the job and to renew our efforts for safe workplaces, Melissa Schmaltz has written this short poem.

Treasured Memories

To remember in a day

All the workers gone away

All the mothers, all the fathers,

All of those who came before us.

It is too much.

It is all wrong.

It is a crutch.

It takes too long.

It doesn’t do to just remember,

To look back and sigh and simmer…

Instead, we could stand up and fight,

And knowledge in others we could ignite.

Protect yourself and those around you

From being a story of what NOT to do.

Stop our friends, our families, and our loved ones

From being a memory, even a treasured one.

This pairing is designed to encourage and empower mentees to more effectively advance their careers through alignment with identified business objective, skill development, career option consideration, and network formation. All discussions are strictly confidential between the two parties. If you are an SH&E practitioner seeking to chart a successful career path or a seasoned pro eager to share experiences and insight, please visit the ASSP WISE website for more information.
