Topic title: N95s; What a global pandemic has taught us

Abstract: (including 3 learning objectives): The integrity of a product is rarely put to the test under normal conditions. CoVid 19 has stressed the PPE market and magnified the importance of proper PPE selection and validation. The CoVid 19 pandemic has brought awareness to what makes an N95 different to other respirators, what sets various N95s apart from one another, and what validation methods provide adequate representation of protection. This discussion will address how N95s are approved by national agencies, discuss the differences between protection provided by manufactures, a discuss the various practices for determining whether your employees are properly protected when donning an N95 in hazardous environments.

  1. Understand the N95 approval process
  2. Be able to create a criteria for selecting N95s
  3. Identify the best fit test practice for your company to ensure proper respiratory protection

Speaker Bio: Dylan is the in-house industrial hygienist for REPSS; specializing in helping health and safety professionals select and sample with the proper equipment for their monitoring needs. Dylan spent 3 years at the University of Arizona as a research project manager. His work focused on the respiratory protection of firefighters at various stages of fighting fires. Since Dylan has worked as an industrial hygiene consultant and has continued to support the University of Arizona with educational session on instrumentation and research equipment. Dylan is a member of the Arizona ASSP and currently serves as the Second Year Director on the Arizona AIHA board.
