Slate of Candidates for 2020/2021 Chapter Year

The 2019 – 2020 ASSP Arizona Chapter Nominations Committee is pleased to present the following Slate of Candidates.  The Slate was approved by the Nominating Committee on Feb. 4, 2020. This Slate has been developed for the election of Chapter Officers for the 2020 – 2021 Chapter Year.  Per the By Laws, the election will be held during the May Chapter Meeting, if the required quorum of members is present.  The Slate must be posted on the Chapter web page 30 days prior to the election.

Candidate bios below…

Brandy Farris Miller is a Principal at Apex Ergonomics and Workplace Solutions, LLC. and a Senior Ergonomist at NJ & Associates based in the Phoenix, Arizona area. Dr. Miller holds Bachelors and Master Degrees in Industrial Engineering with an emphasis in Applied Occupational Ergonomics and a PhD in Organization and Management with an emphasis in organizational safety climate. She is a Certified Professional Ergonomist and a Certified Six-Sigma Black Belt.  With over 25 years experience, Dr. Miller is known for her expertise in the application of industrial engineering, applied occupational ergonomics principles, and organization safety climate improvement in a wide variety of industrial settings.

She has co-authored more than 55 publications and conducted research and consulting in applied industrial engineering, time studies, occupational ergonomics, safety, organizational safety climate, and disability/injury accommodations.

Dr. Miller is currently an Adjunct Professor at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Gateway Community College.  Since its founding in 2004, she has been a Principal at Apex Ergonomics.  In addition to her work with Apex, Dr. Miller has been a Senior Ergonomist for NJ&Associates since 2016.  From 2004 to 2016, Dr. Miller worked for JFAssociates, Inc. most recently as a Principal.  At JFA, she worked on litigation and consulting projects in the areas of industrial engineering, time studies, ergonomics, and testing and evaluation.  From 2000 to 2005, Dr. Miller worked as an ergonomist for Intel Corporation. From 1998-2000, she worked as an ergonomics consultant for Great American Insurance. In 1998, she was an ergonomist for Raytheon Aircraft.

Presently, Dr. Miller is working on projects involving industrial engineering, human resources, ergonomics, and testing and evaluation for various clients.

Dr. Miller is currently the Membership and Newsletter chair (2017-present) for the Arizona Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals. Dr. Miller is the past-president (2012-2013) of the International Society for Occupational Ergonomics and Safety (ISOES), a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), and the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). From 2013-2017, she has served as the treasurer of the International Society for Occupational Ergonomics and Safety.  She has published numerous articles nationally and internationally and currently serves on the editorial board of the Industrial and Systems Engineering Review and is a reviewer for a number of journals.  She previously served as the News Editor for the International Journal of Industrial Engineering from 2010-2011.

Nick Sexton is a Technical Consultant with Liberty Mutual Insurance and has been working as a H&S consultant since 2012, specializing in Casualty lines. Nick earned his Bachelors’ Degrees in Chemistry and Psychology, as well as a Master’s in Public Health from Eastern Kentucky University. Nick holds his ARM, CPCU, and CSP designations. Nick has spent the last three years consulting exclusively with Liberty Mutual’s largest customer, reducing injury and crash trends for their struggling business units through focused engineering and behavior consulting based on his data analysis each year. Nick resides in Glendale, AZ with his wife, Morgan, and their two dogs.


David L Bellmont, CSP, CPCU, ARM

David has worked in the insurance and safety field for over 30 years and has been the Treasurer of the AZ Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals for over 25 years.
