EHS DIRECTOR

Phoenix, AZĀ $110000.00 to $120000.00 per year

As Verde’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Director (EHS Director), you are responsible for protecting the safety of our people and the sustainability of our planet. Specifically, you oversee the development and management of a high performing EHS&S program for our entire company. This is a hands-on director role that will require onsite engagement with our people. In this position, you take full ownership of the individual safety, programs, and metrics that impact our Verde Vibes Crew (team members) and our customers. You also develop strategic approaches to reduce our carbon footprint, improve our Verde Planet program, and support client sustainability goals.

What you’ll do at Verde

Safety Superhero. You’re good at your job because you genuinely care about the safety of others as a core value. You ensure our Verde Vibes crews and contractors achieve zero harm. You build a positive culture focused on influencing behaviors at work and in life and build a rewards program for safe crews.

Road Warrior. You love being out in the field and interacting with crew members. 50-70% of the job will require local site visits and quick overnight regional trips for safety training and validation, process roll outs, and investigations. Eventually, you’ll build up a safety team to support these efforts.

Safety Vibes. You roll out employee programs and safety games that reinforce our Safety Vibes culture and increase safety awareness, good catches, and overall performance.   

Policy Police. Nothing slips through the cracks under your careful watch. You establish policies and procedures and have zero tolerance for deviations. You ensure that Verde complies with all municipal, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including OSHA.

Track star. You lead meticulous tracking of all safety activities including near misses, good catches, safety hazards, investigations, and trainings at every site managed by Verde.  Integrity is the foundation for your reporting. You strictly follow OSHA reporting requirements for recordable incidents and would never falsify, misrepresent, or produce fraudulent documentation.

EHS&S Coach. You lead and coach all employees, including the management team, on the interpretation and administration of EHS&S policies and procedures. This includes communicating industry trends, policy and regulation updates, safety chat topics, and ongoing training.

People + Planet Protector. As part of your care for health & safety, you are a champion for improving indoor air quality and utilization of safer choice products. You work with our sustainability and supply partners to provide the cleanest and greenest workplaces in the U.S. through selection of eco-friendly supplies and processes, review and approval of safety data sheets, increased diversion, and creative solutions for carbon footprint reduction.

Metrics-Minded. EHS reports are regularly provided Verde leadership. You also oversee individual site safety leadership teams. Using leading indicators and metrics, you analyze trends and manage continuous improvement of safety and environmental performance.

Qualifications

  • OSHA certified
  • Must speak English and Spanish
  • Local and regional travel required / 50-70%
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in Safety Management
  • Minimum 4 years of safety & experience in facilities, manufacturing, construction, or equivelent
  • Proficiency or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience in any of the following would be a plus: facilities, green cleaning / custodial, critical space / cleanroom, and / or LEED

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the CEO and sits on our senior leadership team. Direct reports will include any site safety personnel throughout our organization.

Location

This is a remote position with some local and regional travel required.

Preference given to applicants in metro-Phoenix area where Verde’s corporate headquarters office is located.  Secondary preferences include Colorado and Southern California.
