Position Details: Drive a positive safety culture, building upon our outstanding safety record. This position reports to the Director of Safety and works with staff at all levels. The primary focus is to support Tilson’s existing safety program, expanding apprenticeship programs, ensure compliance and provide safety assistance and training to Tilson’s expanding horizontal drilling and, overhead fiber self-perform operations. Tilson will be implementing a new EHS management software program and this position will play an important role in system development and integration. This position may be remote or from any of Tilson’s 20+ national offices.
Responsibilities may include:
Plan and implement training for employees in worksite safety practices to include forklift/lull
Maintain First Aid / CPR / AED training coordination with offices as requested
Assists Director of Safety and supervisors in investigating accidents and developing measures to prevent recurrences
Work with Safety Director, local managers, and office supervisors to conduct PPE Hazard Assessments as they relate to the work being conducted. Recommend appropriate PPE based on those assessments.
Work with Safety Director, local managers, and Supervisors to develop/refine Task Hazard Analysis of site tasks
Responsible for organizing and assisting with preparation of bi-monthly company safety committee meetings
Assist in implementation of the Tilson Behavior Observation Program
Assist, plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT)
Responsible for ensuring overall company Tilson certification maintenance and compliance
Perform regular workplace and National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE) inspections and assists management in inspection of workplaces to assure safe and healthful conditions for workers and subcontractors. Prepares appropriate notices for management to issue for abatement of any identified hazards
Stays current with Horizontal Drilling, aerial fiber installation, NATE and, other communication industry regulatory requirements
Stays current on the latest federal, state, and local safety, health, and workplace regulations
Assist with Tilson TIRAP oversight, implementation, and maintenance.
Bachelor’s degree, strongly preferred or, demonstrated 5-10 years’ experience in safety, training, or compliance
CHST designation a plus
Documented safety management training
Current OSHA 500 certificate and training experience in OSHA 10/30
Demonstrated experience in conducting field audits and accident investigations
Fully proficient in the MS Office suite
Preferred but not required: all additional safety related certifications or training/instructor certifications
Defensive Driver Trainer
Ability to develop in-house training for various topics
Fall Protection experience
Respiratory program management and fit-testing
An excellent safety record
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Flexibility, enthusiasm, positivity, and grit
The capacity and patience to consistently educate, train and influence teams about safety’s direct impact on performance
Tilson highly values transferable skills from military experience (radioman, comm techs, field radio personnel)
Able to travel extensively and work in varying and harsh weather conditions
